Beginning in 2015, CPMA convened a series of town hall meetings across Canada. These regional events provided members and those with an interest in the industry, the opportunity to interact with Canadian retailers and the CPMA Executive and hear updates on current issues. The town hall meetings were expanded in 2016 to include two Florida stops. More town halls are planned in the coming months.
Beautiful Price Edward Island was the setting for a CPMA summertime Town Hall and BBQ on August 9, sponsored by the PEI Potato Board. Over 50 industry representatives from across Canada joined Federal Agriculture Minister the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, PEI Agriculture Minister Alan McIsaac and Half Your Plate Ambassador Chef Michael Smith for an informative discussion of industry topics.
Following the Town Hall over 150 Islanders from Minister MacAuley’s riding enjoyed a community barbecue featuring Half Your Plate inspired recipes. Thank you to our barbecue sponsors PEI Potato Board, den Haan Greenhouses, Nova Agri Inc, Cavendish Produce, Mid-isle farms, King's Produce, Red Isle Produce, East Point Potato and Atlantic Beef Products for their generous support.
Special thank you to Rollo Bay Holdings and the Keenan family for hosting a field and packing shed tour and luncheon on their farm and to all the local CPMA members who shared their Island Hospitality!
