Government focus is on ensuring that systems are in place to address food safety, security, plant health or quarantine and commercial reporting requirements. This has lead to stricter enforcement of pre-existing laws, and development of new laws. These developments can present a significant challenge for the fresh produce industry.

The Canadian Produce Marketing Association, on behalf of its members, is actively engaged in providing a forum for both industry members and government to discuss a wide range of issues and initiatives which may affect the distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables. CPMA endeavors to advance international standardization or acceptance of equivalency contribute to seamless and problem free commercial movement of fresh fruits and vegetables.
