Our Goal
We advocate for smart, effective regulation that helps members bring fresh fruits and vegetables to Canadians without unnecessary barriers.
Our Role
We connect industry and government to shape policies that strengthen Canada’s fresh produce sector.
Key Wins
Bill C-280
A Landmark Victory
Securing Financial Protection for Produce Sellers
Fresh produce is high cost, highly perishable, and sold on long payment terms, leaving growers and sellers vulnerable when buyers go bankrupt. CPMA and our members spent years pushing for change, engaging MPs, Senators, and government officials to close this gap.
In December 2024, those efforts paid off: Bill C-280 received Royal Assent, establishing a trust mechanism that ensures sellers are paid even in cases of buyer insolvency.
This achievement strengthens the financial security of Canada’s fresh produce sector and demonstrates the power of unified advocacy.

Advocacy in Action
CPMA brings members, Parliamentarians, and government officials together to advance the issues that matter most to Canada’s fresh produce sector. From joint advocacy events like Fall Harvest to member-focused initiatives such as our Post-Election Meet & Greet series, these engagements showcase the power of connection and collaboration in driving real change.
Fall Harvest Reception
Each year, CPMA and FVGC co-host the Fall Harvest Reception to bring MPs, Senators, and industry leaders together. The event highlights the importance of the fresh produce sector, builds visibility on Parliament Hill, and fosters direct dialogue with policymakers on the issues that matter most to our members.
Post-Election Meet & Greet Series
Following the 2025 federal election, CPMA hosted a series of meetings between MPs, Senators, and members to introduce the fresh produce sector’s priorities to the new Parliament. These sessions positioned CPMA as a trusted voice early in the mandate and ensured members’ concerns were heard as parties shaped their agendas.
