In 2025, CPMA continues to advocate for greater federal support to strengthen the Canadian organic sector and ensure the long-term sustainability of the Canadian Organic Standards.
CPMA’s advocacy priorities include:
- Federal funding and support for ongoing, cyclical reviews of the Canadian Organic Standards.
- Expanded engagement from key federal departments to enhance oversight and coordination across the supply chain.
- Active participation in the completion of the 2025 review of the Canadian Organic Standards as a voting member of the Organic Review Technical Committee.
Understanding the Canadian Organic Regime
Under the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), any food, seed, or feed labelled “organic” is regulated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
Part 13 of the SFCR defines certification and marketing requirements for organic products, both domestic and imported, and establishes criteria for the use of the Canada Organic Logo.
